Kyrgyzstan · Naryn · 2026
Wind ahead,
mountains beyond.
5 & 7-day horseback expeditions through Kyrgyzstan's ancient Naryn highlands. May–August 2026.
From the Trail
The land, in motion.
Naryn highlands: steppe, canyon, lake, and cloud.
About the Journey
Seven hours east of Bishkek.
Then horse, then grass,
then wind.
Naryn lies in southern Kyrgyzstan, a region of high pastures, old caravanserais, and nomadic families who still move to summer grazing lands. Days pass on horseback, nights in yurts and A-frame wooden cabins.

Nomadic life
Stay with local families, join a real migration, taste kumis.

Small groups
Max 6 riders. Each horse matched to rider experience.

Remote terrain
No crowds, no signal. Just peaks, valleys, and hooves.

On the Route
Six stops.
Each with its own silence.

A 15th-century stone caravanserai on the Silk Road. Thick walls, narrow corridors, and the endless wind outside.

The longest day. The trail climbs up the valley to where the water falls from the cliffs. A-frame cabins await.

An ice-blue lake hidden among the mountains. A yurt camp on its shore, mountain stars at night.

A nearly unknown high lake near the Chinese border. Drifting across its still waters in a small boat. A rare luxury.

You join a family moving to summer pastures. Animals, loads, children, a yurt rising in a different valley.

Kyrgyz hunting-bird training is a centuries-old tradition. See the eagle land on a gloved arm, up close.
Where You Sleep
Four kinds of shelter.
Seven nights. Each one different from the last.

Village House
Stay with a local family. Warm hospitality and home-cooked meals around the table.

Kyrgyz Yurt
Traditional nomadic stay under open skies. Simple, authentic, unforgettable.

Hostel
At-Bashy town. Hot shower and an actual mattress. The one civilised night. Savour it.

A-Frame Cabin
A modern wooden cabin set deep in the valley. The most comfortable nights of the journey.

Season 2025 · May–August
From the riders.
I came solo and had no idea what to expect. By the second day I felt completely at home, on the horse, around the fire, at the table with the family. Naryn is unlike anything I've experienced in years of travel.
The nomadic migration day was worth the entire trip by itself. Joining a real family, helping move their yurt, sharing their food. These are the moments that travel is supposed to be about.
The A-frame cabin after the Saar waterfall day felt like pure luxury. Hot tea, wooden walls, total silence. I wrote in my journal for two hours. This trip gave me back something I didn't know I'd lost.
I've seen these mountains my whole life but riding through them with this group felt completely new. The team knows every valley, every family. Guests leave as friends. That's the real Kyrgyzstan.
